Massif Athlete Rich Nicholes & The World’s Toughest Mudder Experience Written by Rich Nicholes In the most basic of explanations, my race was epic!  I did not accomplish a single goal, but I left everything I had on the course.   I had everything dialed in on my pre-race prep.   I put on a good 7 – 10 lbs (I never did a pre-race weight) in carb loading.  I was hydrated so well, I was peeing every 20 minutes prior to the race.  I carried a water bottle with me constant for 2 days prior.  I was as well rested as one would expect, given the late start time and pre-race jitters.  I pre-soaked in a hot tub and took epson salt baths.  My mind was focused.   I checked in on the Friday prior to race day and got my bib, credentials, and pit time.  It took about an hour of waiting in line before I got my bib.  When they handed me […]

Grand Opening update

On June 29, 2013 Crossfit Massif will be hosting its Grand Opening “1st Annual Shakedown”. This is a community event; family, dogs, and fun are welcome. The Shakedown is open to all athletic levels. Start time is 8:00 am and athletes are requested to meet at 7:00 am for instruction and warm ups. We will host 30 teams (one man and one woman) in four separate Events. Event 1- 500 m. row 25 kettle bell swings 15 burpees 25 kettle bell swings 500 m. row   Event 2- 100ft. sled push 75ft. sprint 20 wall balls 75ft. sprint 100ft. sled push   Event 3- Shoulder to Overhead Ladder, 10 min EMOM, Starting Weight, women 65 LBS, men 95 LBS   Break For Lunch   Event 4- To Be Announced Day Of.   All events are completed as a team; standards will be posted on crossfitmassif.com and GaragGames.com next week. We will be posting Event details early this week. Events start at 8am and finish up around 3pm. There will be 5 total events with a cut after event 4. Grand Opening Throwdown

June 29, 2013 Start time: 8AM Ref fee $75 per team of 2 ( 1 man & 1 woman) Gets you both a t-shirt & 4 events Grand Prize: 2 tickets to the CrossFit Games in California! There has been a lot of interest in our throwdown happening June 29th. The day will start at 8am and run till 2pm ish. 30 teams of two people, one man one woman. $75 fee per team. We will have four events, 3 of which will be announced ahead of time leaving the 4th for the day of. There will be no advanced movements in the events. you can expect moderate loading on the bars. We will be working with Garage Games to host registration. It will take Place at 2112 east 1300 south rear parking lot which will be converted into a stadium of sorts. Q and A Programing Workshop

Dear Athletes, As you know we are in the middle of another testing/ assessment cycle here at CrossFit Massif. Ever wonder why we test or how testing molds program design? Thursday, August the 8th, 2013, 6:30-8:00 pm CrossFit Massif will be hosting a question and answer workshop pertaining to our testing week. It is open to all members and non-members. During the workshop we will be discussing the different types of testing we do for example: The CP battery and it’s importance Neuromuscular Efficiency (NME) and why it should dictate how someone develops strength relative to their goal Building an aerobic engine in the power athlete versus the enduring athlete How and when to train the lactic system This is an opportunity to ask questions about your programing as it pertains to your goals.
